With pride WonderWood presents the re-edition of Hans Wegner's Shell bench and chair. Venus bench and chair illustrate designer and cabinet-maker Hans J.Wegner's genius by showing features of his main masterpieces: fine material, refined joining, curved, pure and light lines, simplicity.
Hans J. Wegner choose the plywood because first, it was the only technique possible
to create a such shape a and secondly, it provides an higher breaking strength.
These iconic design pieces are orginally designed in 1948 and re-issued today in Denmark.
The Venus Range is an example of Hans Wegner's early fascination with bent plywood. The range features two ‘shells’ of plywood that are used to create a lean curving back and an effortless cantilevered the seat.
Although considered experimental pieces for Hans Wegner, they cary a minimalist poetic touch and a consideration for the human form, two signature aspects of Wegner's work.
The chair has a base of solid light oak.
Seat and back are available in light oak (tonal) or walnut (contrast).
