The famous praying mantis lamp is a French design by Rispal from 1950. This lamp, also known as the 'mante religieuse' lamp, is inspired by the shapes of a praying mantis.
The stand is made of walnut and the lampshade is made of pleated rhodoid. Each praying mantis lamp has a different shade. In this case, the original shade is off-white and is in excellent condition. Jean Arp's abstract organic shapes were also an inspiration for this design.
